FC Barcelona has made the next personnel decision in the goal. Iñaki Peña leaves the Catalans for one season on loan in the direction of FC Elche, where he should become a regular goalkeeper. For the future, Barcelona is still building on the 26-year-old, and his contract was previously extended until 2029.
Peña’s own plant had taken over the place between the posts last year when Marc-André Ter Stegen spent a long time with a patella tendon tear. Only through a delay and the resulting disciplinary measure did he lose this place to the Wojciech Szczęsny, who returned from the end of the career. The Pole extended his contract again for this season and, together with the number one Joan García and Ter Stegen, who was newly signed by Espanyol Barcelona, will form the goalkeeper trio. Peña would only have remained the status as number four.
At Elche he is now competing with the 37 -year -old Matías Dituro, who has been set for two years. With a market value of 8 million euros, Peña, who played a total of 45 games for Barcelona, is now the most valuable player in the squad.
