The change posses around Nick Woltemade has dominated the headlines in the past few weeks. The striker stays in Stuttgart – but now has to go to the bench.

VfB Stuttgart initially starts its mission title defense in the DFB Cup without Nick Woltemade. The Swabian offensive star, who led VfB to the cup triumph in the pre-season with five goals, only sits on the bench at the second division club Eintracht Braunschweig, for the 23-year-old coach Sebastian Hoeneß Tiago Tomás begins.

Like Lorenz Assignon, the Portuguese will celebrate its starting eleven debut for Stuttgart. In addition, central defender Dan-Axel Zagadou is back in the squad after his knee injury.

“Very easy to explain. Nick played the U21 European Championship, they came to the final and he got on three weeks later,” said Hoeneß. “We are now going into an English week, so we just have to take responsibility and control the boys.”

Stuttgart in Braunschweig is just defensive in Braunschweig, so Luca Jaquez (broken nose), Jeff Chabot (Adductor Problems), Leonidas Stergiou (foot injury) and Ameen al-Dakhil (muscular complaints) are all.
