Anyone who looked at the game report sheet on Sunday at the Gladbach game against HSV was looking for the name Julian Weigl in vain. And for good reason.
Julian Weigl is apparently about to change. The 29-year-old was not available to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the home game against Hamburger SV on Sunday. As the club announced, the midfielder was released “because of conversations for a possible transfer”. According to reports, the ex-international (six international matches) should move to Saudi Arabia.
Weigl had initially came to the Lower Rhine on a loan from Benfica Lisbon in 2022, and he was later committed. In the current planning of coach Gerardo Seoane, however, the defensive midfielder no longer plays a central role. For example, Weigl was no longer part of the leadership team around the captain, even in the DFB Cup game at Atlas Delmenhorst, he stayed on the bench throughout the season.
