American envoy meets Netanyahu about Lebanon and Syria
The American envoy Tom Barrack arrived in Israel today. According to three Israeli officials, he would have talked about Syria and Lebanon with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The American ambassador in Israel, Mike Huckabee, reportedly also participated in the meetings. The envoys are expected to travel to Lebanon tomorrow. The senior republican senator Lindsey Graham will join them in Beirut.
It is the sequel to earlier discussions between Barrack, the Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer and the Minister of Defense Israel Katz.
According to two Syrian sources, Dermer already held discussions in Paris on Tuesday with the Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani about the security measures in southern Syria.
Syrian and Israeli officials have conducted interviews by the US about de-escalating the conflict in southern Syria. An earlier conversation already took place in Paris at the end of July, but ended without a final agreement.
On Monday, Barrack said in Lebanon that Israel should adhere to a plan in which Hezbollah would be disarmed by the end of the year in exchange for stopping Israel’s military operations in Lebanon.
