The man who let a fireworks bomb go off at a luxury villa in Uden last summer, has to go to prison for sixteen months. He has already served a large part of it, so he only has to sit for two months. The man stuck a bottle with a flammable liquid on the front door, which led to an explosion and fire. At that time there was only a dog inside.

On June 15, 2024 around eleven in the evening, the Heinsbergenstraat was startled by a loud bang. The damage was limited to the door. The residents were not at home, but their dog was inside. It remained unharmed.

The police found DNA in the garden fence of the villa, but it took months before someone was arrested. The suspect Benfik M. initially denied that he had something to do with the explosion, but admitted a few months later.

Debts by addiction
He said he saw no other way out. He struggled for years with a heroin addiction and had debts. When his creditors set him an ultimatum, he decided to commit the attack on the villa.

The judge charges him heavily. “Although no people were present in the home, he took that opportunity for granted by committing the lamps in the house, at a time when residents are normally at home. The suspect should have taken into account that the residents could also be at home now. The explosion of local residents also led to anxiety and insecurity.”

The public prosecutor demanded a year and a half in prison, deducting the custody, which lasted 14 months. M.’s lawyer asked for a punishment equal to the time he was already stuck because the man is vulnerable and now takes his responsibility.

The court goes with that. According to the judge, M. is now debt -free, it seems to go better with his addiction and he has not made the mistake again since the attack. That is why part of the punishment has been conditionally imposed, on the condition that he is treated and remains under the supervision of the probation service.

The judge imposes Benfik M. a two -year prison sentence, of which eight months conditional. The time he has already spent in custody in the cell are going away. So he only has to sit out a punishment of about two months.

Neighbors of Villa Roger Lips
A striking detail: the house on which the suspect was aiming is next to the millions of villa that was once of the fugitive real estate magnate Roger Lips. That has nothing to do with this case.
