Tennis star Arianne Hartono (29) from Meppel did not qualify for the main tournament of the US Open. In the decisive qualifying round of the Grandslam tournament, she lost in New York of the British Francesca Jones, the number 86 in the world. Jones won in two sets: 6-2, 6-4.
Hartono, itself the number 187 on the world ranking, started the party weakly. Within twenty minutes she looked at a 3-0 deficit. Jones did not give that lead away and took the first set convincingly.
In the second set, Hartono offered more opposition, but in the final phase Jones again took the lead.
The elimination is a disappointment for Hartono. She came up Flushing Meadows Never in action at the main tournament – and this year that debut will not be done this year.
