The German cycling star Florian Lipowitz experienced a shock on the second stage of the 40th Germany Tour.
The total third of the Tour de France came off the street around 16 kilometers before the finish line in a left turn and slammed head -on against a power box, but was able to continue after a short break. In the victory of Jhonatan Narváez, however, he crossed the finish line.
The German champion Georg Zimmermann got a little worse in the same curve. The Augsburg fell and initially remained.
Already in the early stages of the 189 hilly kilometers from Herford to Arnsberg in the Sauerland with 2399 meters of altitude, Zimmermann, who had to end the Tour de France early after a crash, fell.
In the curious finale of the royal stage, Narváez (UAE Emirates-XRG) prevailed from a group of three. The ultimately second -placed Riley Sheehan (Israel – Premier Tech) had already torn his arms up a few meters before the finish line, but the Ecuadorian Narváez was still racing by. Third was the Norwegian prologue winner Sören Waerenskjold (UN-X Mobility), who also took over the overall lead.
Lipowitz tirelessly despite the cold
Lipowitz, who, despite the aftermath of a cold until his accident, tirelessly worked for his teammate Danny van Poppel (Netherlands), ultimately rolled to Narváez as 102nd over eight minutes. The best German was the Tübinger Marius Mayrhofer in place for four seconds behind the top trio.
On Saturday on the third stage, things get down again. On the 175.7 kilometers from Arnsberg to Kassel, 2720 meters of altitude are waiting for the drivers, the biggest challenge is the Buttenberg half of the race, and shortly before the finish, it goes uphill. The following day, the Deutschland Tour ends with a flat stage to Magdeburg.
