With an Instagram post, Paul McCartney sparked speculation about a return of the Beatles “Anthology” project.
On Monday evening (August 19) the musician divided a series of pictures on Instagram, which shows the isolated numbers “1”, “2”, “3” and “4”, each filled with excerpts from the original artwork of the Beatles albums of the same name.
An explanation or caption was missing, but many fans see it a clear indication. Could “Anthology 4” actually appear after almost 30 years?
The Beatles and their “Anthology” project
The first part appeared in November 1995, accompanied by a six-part TV documentary in which Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr told the history of the band.
At the same time, the albums “Anthology 1, 2 and 3” were published, which contained live versions, demos, outtakes and previously unpublished material. The two new songs “Free As a Bird” and “Real Love”, which were produced with the help of John Lennon’s old demo recordings and Jeff Lynne, caused a sensation.
Another Lennon demo called “Now and then” was also under discussion at the time, but was not completed. It was not until 2023 that McCartney and rigid AI technologies used Lennon’s voice from the old shots and officially published the song.
“Anthology 4” or Disney+-RE release?
McCartneys Post now fuels the rumors for a possible fourth album in the series, or at least a new edition of the original collection. A re-release of the documentation at Disney+ is also considered likely after the streaming service had recently already restored Beatles material such as “Beatles ’64”.
Nothing has been officially confirmed so far. However, fans already speculate about possible remixes of “Free As a Bird” and “Real Love” with the help of modern technology. This thesis increases the fact that the term “1995 Mix” has recently appeared on streaming services for both songs.
30 years “Anthology”
In 2025, the 30th anniversary of the Beatles project marked an obvious time for a re-publication. It remains to be seen whether it remains with a new edition or whether a previously unpublished “Anthology 4” appears. So far, only: “Stay Tuned.”
