The works start in the spring at the Nieuwpoortsluis on the Nieuwpoort-Duinkerke canal in Veurne. Four pairs of doors are renewed there. During the works, no shipping is possible between Veurne and Dunkirk. The lock follows in the fall Fintelewhich forms the connection between the iron and the Lokanaal. Two pairs of doors are replaced there and the brickwork is also restored to the access stairs.
“To place the new doors, the lock clouds must be completely dried up,” says Waterweg manager De Vlaamse Waterweg. “That means that shipping traffic is temporarily interrupted.”
The works are part of the maintenance of the waterway infrastructure and are part of the Weather Westhoek Action Plan. The assignment has been assigned to contractor Van Huele from Ostend.
