Texel is the worst boy in the class when it comes to separating waste. And that must be done differently, the municipality believes. That is why all waste containers on the island will receive a chip from next month. Only waste bins with a chip will now be emptied.
“With chipping we want to make waste collection transparent and therefore more efficient and more sustainable,” said the municipality. “Measuring is knowing: for example, we can check whether the bins are regularly emptied enough or too often.”
After that, measures will be taken. After this it may be that providers of accommodation with breakfast or owners with a holiday home in their garden will soon have to pay a part for business, NH wrote earlier.
High waste mountain is also due to tourists
In addition to the fact that Texelaars are bad at separating waste, tourists also partly ensure that so much residual waste is collected on the island. The waste from the holidaymakers on the large recreation parks or hotels is processed commercially. But on the island there are also 755 registered addresses with accommodation and breakfast. And the waste does end up in the household container, to which all Texelaars contribute.
With the measures, the municipality also wants to ensure ‘that each household has the correct container (s) for which paid via the waste tax’.
