Shocking event

Lisa left around half past three in the morning on her electric bicycle from Leidseplein to Abcoude, a trip of about 45 minutes. Less than an hour later, the police found her body on the Holterbergweg in Duivendrecht. The police assume one perpetrator and are urgently looking for witnesses who have seen or filmed her on the way.

The crime does not stand on its own. Less than a week before, a woman in the same environment, at the Weespertrekvaart, was violently dragged into the bushes and sexually. Whether there is a connection between the two cases is still being investigated. The fact remains that the incidents evoke a sense of insecurity in the region.

The mayor of Ouder-Amstel, which includes Duivendrecht, has now announced additional measures. For example, there will be camera surveillance around the Holterbergweg. “It all affects us all that a young girl was killed in this way in our municipality,” said Mayor Susanne de Roy van Zuidewijn.

More and more

Nowadays there are more and more incidents in which women and girls fall victim to violence or intimidation in public spaces, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands. Figures from Statistics Netherlands also show that a large proportion of women sometimes feel unsafe on the street, especially after sunset. It leads to difficult conversations at home, because do you give your daughter the freedom that belongs to her age, or do you limit it to guarantee her safety? And what do you do as parents once she has reached the age of 18?
