Stockholm (dpa -Afx) – Sweden is ready to secure peace in Ukraine through airspace monitoring and from the sea. This was said by the Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson about the radio station SVerige radio. It is not about moving large troops from other countries to Ukraine, but rather about ensuring that “Ukraine itself can take responsibility for its country, so that Russia is not trying again,” said Kristerson.

The Swedish contribution in the case of a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia had to be done in a safe way, so that one knew “whereupon you get involved,” said Kristersson.

During advice from military chiefs from Germany and the other NATO countries about the ongoing peace efforts for Ukraine, it was expected that it was also part of path to military security guarantees as part of a peace solution. Sweden joined NATO in March 2024 and is therefore the latest member of the Alliance./Arn/DP/NAS
