Hamburger SV is one of the largest clubs in Germany. In the New sticker on T-Online you will find all the important messages about the “red pants”.
In the promotion season he was still HSV captain, then he was informed that he would no longer play a major role in the squad of coach Merlin Polzin: Sebastian Schonlau has apparently drawn consequences. According to a report by the “Bild” newspaper and the TV broadcaster Sky, the 31-year-old is drawn to the new MLS club of Bayern legend Thomas Müller.
Schonlau is said to have negotiated a contract for one and a half years long for the Vancouver Vikings by the end of 2026, the report says. He should also receive a “small severance payment” in the six -digit range from HSV. Schonlau still has a contract with the Hamburgers by summer 2026, although he is already offered to dissolve the contract.
A confirmation is still pending. The Yussuf Poulsen, which was moved to Hamburg in the summer, took over the captain’s armband.
Sebastian Schonlau was officially discontinued only last week as captain of Hamburger SV. Now this is apparently imminent from the 31 -year -old defense player, who led the HSV as a leader for four years. As the “Bild” reports, the Hanseatic Law has offered a contract termination. In the short of 2: 1 success after extension in the DFB Cup in Pirmasens, Schonlau was no longer part of the Hamburg squad.
The central defender had already lost his regular place in the past promotion season. Now he is one of four HSV professionals in which coach Merlin Polzzin sees hardly any opportunities in the first division. In addition to Schonlau, this also affects Bakery Jatta, Silvan Hefti and despite his goal in Pirmasens, Guilherme Ramos. The HSV leadership suggests a change of association.
HSV head coach Merlin Polzin presented his new team captain on Friday. Established players like Daniel Heuer Fernandes, Daniel Elfadli or Miro Muheim have long been considered promising candidates. However, a new addition has prevailed: Yussuf Poulsen will bear the captain’s armband in the future. The team council also includes Jonas Meffert and Nicolas Capaldo.
Polzin justified his decision as follows: “Our choice has been made on Yussuf because he has a great sense of responsibility and a lot of experience. In addition, he lives 100 percent as a full professional.”
The Danish newcomer replaces Sebastian Schonlau. Polzin thanked the central defender, who is about to say goodbye to the Hamburgers: “He has filled this office in the past few years in an outstanding way.”
His red card in the last test game at RCD Mallorca has no consequences for Jordan Torunarigha for the time being. The DFB suspended the lock against the 28-year-old at the request of the HSV, the association said.
