She completed 177 missions for the “Danas”. On Sunday, Hockey national player Selin Oruz ended her career for financial reasons.

Selin Oruz ended her career as a hockey national player on Sunday after 177 missions as Vice European Champion. Afterwards, the 28-year-old said that the step does not happen voluntarily, but also for financial reasons.

Oruz said after the lost final against the Netherlands that she could “not afford” another time in the national team. Sufficient financial support is missing in order to further agree on the high effort as a competitive athlete with her profession as a doctor.

She explained to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” in relation to her career end in the national team: “This decision will be taken from me to a certain extent. Except for local funding from the home club, you stand alone and end its international career significantly, which has a significant impact on the quality of the national teams.”

The hockey player Kira Horn also said two years ago: “The question of whether you will be a hockey player for financial reasons does not arise, it is better to plan around it.” Hockey is a marginal sport and the salaries are low. For women, they are even lower than with men. Deutsche Sporthilfe supports the women’s national team financially.
