Mainz 05 prevailed in the 1st cup round with a narrow 1-0 in Dresden – especially because Nadiem Amiri and Robin Zentner had it in his ranks.
In the narrow 1-0 win of the Bundesliga club at the second division promoted, Amiri (22nd) made fans in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium before 30.105, the goal of the day, hundredweight parried a penalty of the Dresden in the second half.
“We were clearly the better team up to 1-0”said Dresden’s coach Thomas Stamm on the ARD microphone: “We didn’t reward ourselves.” Before Amiri’s free kick, his team should have better defended the situation. Stamm then said to the goal scorer Amiri: “The quality is undisputed.”
The praised Amiri explained: “I practiced a lot of free kicks a week. Such standards can decide a game, the work was worth it again.”
Dresden with the better start
The Dresdeners lively started. The team was not to look at the bad second division start with two defeats in Fürth and against Magdeburg. Already in the third minute, Nils Fröling had the huge chance to take the lead after a cross from Dominik Kother, but from seven meters with a header on the Mainz goalkeeper Robin Zentner, who parried strongly with reflex.
Just two minutes later, Fröling nibbled his opponent Stefan Bell in the penalty area, but his shot was blocked by Dominik Kohr at the last moment.
There was nothing to be seen from Mainz in the early minutes. The first chance was after ten minutes after a corner, but goalkeeper Tim Schreiber parried Bell’s header. As a result, a class difference was also not to be seen. Especially the agile and playful spring repeatedly presented the defense of the 05s with challenges.
Amiri meets worth seeing
And yet it was the Bundesliga club who took the lead against oppressively superior Dresden – with a goal out of nowhere. A free kick from a central position of 25 meters circulated by Amiri with a lot of average over the wall, the ball clapped against the inner post and then rolled into the goal.
“If you want to get ahead against a Bundesliga club, you have to be more effective”said Dresden’s Niklas Hauptmann: “The free kick was brutally shot.”
As a result, it became hectic. Dynamos Lars Bünning and the Mainz Arnaud Nordin settled in the five -meter space, after a harmless contact, Nordin sank as if hit by lightning, although he had hardly been touched by Bünning – extremely unsportsmanlike. Referee Florian Badstübner, who apparently did not see her scene, left it for both.
From a sporting point of view, Mainz came into play better before the break. Paul Nebel found his master twice in Schreiber – only with a shot free in front of the goal and a little later with a header from a short distance. With 1-0 for the guests it went into half.
Lemmer is almost negligent
The Mainz also had the game under control at the beginning of the second half. Dresden kept trying it, but did not come to clear chances.
Up to the 65th minute. Then the just substituted Mainz Ben Bobzien jumped the ball in the penalty area. But Dynamo left the great chance to compensate. Jakob Lemmer’s penalty was so weak and miserably shot, so hundredthers had no trouble.
After that, the Mainz did well and controlled the game quite confidently. The Dresden’s final offensive then survived with luck and skill. Shortly before the end, Lemmer gave the huge chance to equalize in front of Zentner and pulled the ball past the goal. In the end, the Bundesliga club may have success in the work victory category.
Mainz trainer Bo Henriksen experienced the final phase from the stands. Shortly before the end, he did not get the ball out of a throw -in for Dresden and saw the Red Card by referee Badstübner, for it,
Sports director Heidel: “Desk acrobats”
At half-time, the Mainz sports director Christian Heidel had excited himself in the “Sky” interview about the club’s tight opening program and criticized the DFB again sharply. “What happened there is a farce for me”said the 62-year-old about the game approach: “The DFB department simply tried nothing. They tried to push through this appointment, no one knows why.”
“We said clearly: ‘We want to play on Friday or Saturday.’ We tried everything, I have not received a hint that the gentlemen from the DFB tried to find a solution “Schandel and described the association managers as “Desk acrobats”. The reason for the late setting was the Dresden city festival that took place the weekend before and the associated official security requirements.
