North of Cornwall, the most famous former watermill in England is located on a secluded river: The Old Sawmills, better known today than the Sawmills Studio. Bought up by the producer Tony Cox in 1974, the ancient building on the river bank became one of the first residential studios in Great Britain. Now the studio is for sale.

Oasis’ breakthrough: Definitely
But it is the winter of 1993 that gives the remote studio on the river bank its celebrity. Oasis’ Debütalbum Definitely Maybe (1994) was completely re -recorded in this place after her initially failed recording attempt in Wales. Noel Gallagher were too clean: he wanted something that sounded raw and immediately. So the band dropped out in Cornwall’s hinterland for ten days and picked up the entire album again. “They just got started and bang, bang, bang, bang – they had made it after about three take. They practically did it live, and that’s how I like to pick up,” recalls the studio owner John Cornfield according to “NME”. “Technically speaking, this may violate all the rules, but it sounded great,” he added according to “BBC”.
Definitely contains some of the best -known songs from Oasis, including “Rock ‘N’ Roll Star”, “Live Forever” and “Cigarettes & Alcohol”. The publication in August 1994 pushed the career of the previously unknown band and made their debut on a monumental work of the rock of the 1990s. The cult album was reissued previous summer for the 30th anniversary.
