A car ended up in the water on Sunday evening next to the Spiering lock, at the end of the Bandijk in Werkendam. It went wrong in a silly bend.
The emergency services pulled out en masse. Six fire trucks, two ambulances and two units from the police came to the Bandijk, as well as Rijkswaterstaat with a boat and a car.
Denial
The driver could get out of the car himself. Agents met the man a little further. He was searched and arrested.
The man initially denied being the driver, but several witnesses indicated that they had seen him get out of the car.
Trouble
A recovery company had difficulty removing the car from the water. Only after two hours did this work. Then the road was released.
