Thomas Müller meets shortly after his substitution – but the cheers in Vancouver only last briefly. His debut in the MLS ends with disappointment.
Thomas Müller did not need three minutes, the ball was already in the goal: the world champion put fans in Canada in ecstasy in his debut for the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The only problem: Due to a previous offside position, the hit did not count, shortly before the end, the white caps against Houston Dynamo also collected the goal for 1: 1 (1: 0) final score.
Müller was substituted in the 61st minute at 1-0 under the jubilation of the fans, gave a few commands on the unusual artificial turf and scored a little later with a rich right shot. The 35-year-old was already celebrating his teammates, but then looked at the linesman who refused to recognize the goal.
There was already “Müller Mania” around the sold -out stadium. The newcomer arose in short trousers and white Whitecaps sweaters of a black sedan, rather he made his way to the arena through a trellis of hundreds of fans. Müller waved in a good mood, wrote autographs and finally made it into the catacombs.
As expected, the long-standing Bayern professional initially only sat on the bench and watched how Brian White Vancouver put the lead in the sixth minute with a penalty.
With Müller on the field it was wild in the final phase: Artur Bassi (90.+1) scored to equalize, Vanoug’s midfielder Brooklyn Raines still saw yellow-red (90.+5). In the Western Conference of the Major League Soccer (MLS), the Whitecaps fell back to third place.
