Sandro Wagner coached FC Augsburg with a lot of passion in his coaching debut in the second DFB Cup round. In the 2-0 (0: 0) of the Bundesliga club at Halleschen FC, the 37-year-old showed a lot of effort on the sidelines with vigorous gestures and was able to cheer at the end of a surprisingly exciting game. Steve Mounié (52nd) removed Augsburg with his goal in front of 14,000 spectators against the brave fourth league club. Samuel Dessende (79th) made everything clear with the second FCA goal.
The pyro fog from the Halle block had not yet warped, since Mounié (1st) offered the big chance for early lead. Wagner’s nerves would certainly have calmed this down. As opened, the previous assistant of national coach Julian Nagelsmann hopped through his coaching zone. Again and again he gave loud instructions to his players and again and again his hands went up to the applause. But that could only be a sign of encouragement and not praise. Because what the Bundesliga club offered with all playful superiority did not work. It even got really dangerous for Augsburg. But goalkeeper Finn Dahmen (11./13.) Palcated reaction quickly against the HFC attacker Malek Fakhro and Serhat Polat. Later Dahmen (43rd) was present by the header outside of his penalty area ahead of Julien Damelang of the Savior.
And Augsburg? Mounié (23rd) came again in promising position, but Halle’s goalkeeper Sven Müller was in the way. Dimitrios Giannoulis (43.) did not really hit the ball on his chance. Wagner certainly had a few words for his players during the break. And the speech had an effect: This time the first good chance used Mounié with a header from a short distance. Wagner continued to whirl on the sidelines, literally knelt with himself. That was also necessary, because Halle did not subside and could have turned the game again with more calm at the end. After a counterattack, the substitute dining end made everything clear with his goal. Wagner knelt in front of the coaching bench and showed the fist.
In the parallel games, the second division club Holstein Kiel (2-0 at regional league FC 08 Homburg) and SV Elversberg (1-0 at third division SSV Ulm) prevailed as favorites.
