With those four attackers, AZ grabbed the 2-1 lead after good printing by Kees Smit and completing Troy Parrott. Interesting to see was that Meerdink and Parrott played half together. And that while the string struggle at AZ has erupted after Meerdink is right at the door. “We didn’t play with two strikers, but Troy played on ten. Mexx was the striker.”

Ro-Zangelo Daal came from the wings. After the departure of Ruben van Bommel, the left winger has developed into a basic player. “It was a lesser match on our part,” says Daal, who ran to FC Vaduz last Thursday against a very fast red card. He started again against Volendam. “Last season we also left points to the smaller clubs more often. With all due respect: you have to beat this,” says Daal about the duel with Volendam.

Competition

Together with Isak Jensen Daal fights for the left winger position. Daal now seems to be preferred there and also has less competition. After the departure of Ruben van Bommel, Jayden Addai, Ernest Poku and Mayckel Lahdo, the rinse is thin on the wing positions. “Isak is a very good player. I feel the competition for sure,” says Daal. “I am a player who is strong in the dribble and can pass easily.”
