Oblamage perfect: The 1. FC Nürnberg fails in the DFB Cup at the regional league team FV Illertissen. The club picked up a 0-2 deficit.
The cup sensation is perfect: the regional league FV Illertissen has thrown the 1. FC Nürnberg out of the DFB Cup. Denis Milic (2nd minute) and Yannick Glessing (43.) had put the home side in the lead in the first half. It was only in a dramatic final phase through goals from Berkay Yilmaz (66.), Artem Stepanov (78th) and Semir Telalovic (88.) The turn before Illertissens Tobias Rühle sent the game into the extension (90. +1). The regional league kept his nerves in a penalty shootout. It was FCN loan Clayton Irigoyen who converted the decisive penalty for Illertissen.
Ice -cold start: Illertissen shocked the 1. FC Nürnberg
Earlier behind, interruption, furious catch-up, penalty, last-minute collapse, extension, penalty shootout. The 1. FC Nürnberg delivered an insane cup fight with FV Illertissen. But from the beginning: The regional league team put around five thousand fans in the Vöhlinstadion, which usually only has a capacity of 3,000 spectators.
The start was not only a cold shower for the house -high favorite, the club could have sent it back to 2014 without any problems and could submit it as a contribution to the “Ice Bucket Challenge”. Luka Lochoshvili lost a liberation of the home team. The ball landed with Daniel Hausmann, who sent Denis Milic into the running duel with Robin Knoche with a nice steep pass, which the FCN captain clearly lost. Milic stayed cool in front of Mathenia and after less than two minutes pushed the ball into the goal.
Second neck strike before the break: FCN defense desolate
Anyone who had expected an angry rearing of the Nuremberg were disappointed. The Franks had the ball much more often, but it didn’t get dangerous. It was only after eleven minutes that Telalovic was able to hand over the first Nuremberg shot against his ex-club, which, however, flew over the goal. The harmless passing game that Klose had recently complained about was also noticeable against Illertissen. It was only in the 40th minute a long ball from Knoche behind the defense chain of Illertissen. Newcomer Henri Koudossou tried it with a direct acceptance, but this ball also landed over the crossbar. The equalizer before the break was denied the FCN.
But it came even thicker for Klose & Co. Again, Hausmann sent a teammate into the running duel with a steep pass. This time it was Glessing that was faster than Fabio Gruber, with a wonderful takeover and a targeted end of Mathenia overcame (43.). With a 0: 2 deficit, the whistles of the fans and a lot of anger in the stomach went into the cabin for Klose.
Jander revives the Nuremberg game
Without captain Knoche, with Caspar Jander, a four-year chain on the defensive and three nominal strikers, the FCN coach wanted to provide two in halftime. The 22-year-old Jander immediately took the reins in his hand and from then on conducted the offensive of the Middle Franconia. The Nuremberg attacks came closer to Illertissen’s goal, but remained unsuccessful – the time became scarcer. And on the other hand, after 62 minutes of home, the hair width even missed the 3-0 and thus the preliminary decision.
A missed chance that should take revenge immediately: Jander initiated the connection goal with a hacken pass. Yilmaz dribbled through the multi -legged Illertissen defense and hammered the ball into the right Kreuzeck (66.). The 1: 2 was not only the first competitive goal of the season, but also the signal for catching up for the FCN. A little later, a shot from Noah Maboulou clapped the post (70th).
Lightning start after Interruption
The prelude to a dramatic final phase was accompanied by the violent summer rain. Due to a thunderstorm warning, referee Patrick Alt had to interrupt the encounter in the 75th minute. After about ten minutes it continued and the FCN continued where he stopped: Yilmaz sent a precise flank to the beefy Joker Stepanov, who climbed the highest and balanced the header to 2: 2 (78.).
A little later – that’s how one thought – the decision was made. Of all things, goal scorer Glessing brought Jander in the penalty area. And of all people, Telalovic put Nuremberg in the lead against his ex-club by penalty (86th). Klose observed the cheering scenes with a petrified expression from the bank – as if he knew what the turn of this game had intended. The fully pumped Illertisseners gathered again in the 90th minute to a corner in the Nuremberg penalty area – and storm edge Tobias Rühle rose highly, sank the ball to 3: 3 in the long corner (90. +1).
Pure drama: decides penalty shootout
In the extension, the game swayed back and forth, became nicklig – both teams had good and numerous opportunities to win the cup fight for themselves. In the end, all attempts failed on the goalkeepers, their own powers or skills. After 122 minutes the referee whistled and Illertissen’s players sank to the ground. It went into the penalty shootout.
The first shooters safely convert – then Illertissens Milos Cocic only hit the outer post. But Michel Witte held against Lochoshvili in direct connection. After four goals each, the penalty shootout went into the extension. It was Nuremberg’s Maboulu who first awarded. Of all things, FCN loan Clayton Irigoyen made the crucial goal.
