In the first competitive game under coach Ole Werner, RB Leipzig oversleep with regional league team SV Sandhausen and in the end can cheer. In the 1st round of the DFB Cup, the Bundesliga club prevailed 4: 2 (2: 2) at the outsider on Saturday (16.08.2025).
Newcomer Yan Diomandé (3rd) and Willi Orban (23rd) equalized residues by Leon Ampadu (3rd) and Jahn Herrmann (18th) in an initial phase. The substitute Ezechiel Banzuzi (80th) and Xavi Simons (90.+6) made a happy ending from the favorite’s perspective late in the second round.
Ampadu refines Sandhausens Blitzstart
Ole Werner’s team was completely surprised by the aggressive Sandhäuser Start with a high pressing and was already after less than 180 seconds. Ampadu conquered the ball in midfield, passed on to Herrmann. Simons ensures the decision
With offensive changes and the courage of despair, Sandhausen all threw forward in the final phase. The imposed right -back Kolbe actually had the chance to equalize in the final minute, but did not get past Vandervoort from pointed corner (90.+2).
