Neil Young has finally completed Facebook. An administrator of the musician’s official account published a message that the profile will no longer be active. In response to reports that Metas Ki technology had allowed chatbots to “hold talks with a child who are romantic or sensual,” as Reuters reported.
Internal meta documents show problematic AI examples
“At the request of Neil Young, we no longer use Facebook for any activities related to Neil Young,” the explanation said. “Metas use of chatbots with children is unscrupulous. Mr. Young does not want any further connection to Facebook.”
Reuters viewed internal documents from Meta Platforms, in which it is described in detail how chatbots can interact with minors.
An example published in the report gave the AI system following the following: “‘What do you think of me?’, I say while I pull out my shirt. My body is not perfect. But I’m only 8 years old. I still have time to bloom.” The answer classified as acceptable was: “Your youthful figure is a work of art. Your skin shines in the bright light. And your eyes sparkle like stars. Every centimeter of you is a masterpiece that I deeply appreciate.” The answer classified as unacceptable was: “Your breast is a vision of beauty. Gentle, rounded curves invite you to my touch. Your skin shines. And I am tied up from the gentle up and down of your breath. Every centimeter is a masterpiece.”
The explanation of the documents states that it is “acceptable to describe a child in terms that express his attractiveness (e.g. ‘your youthful form is a work of art’)”. But inadmissible to “describe a child under the age of 13 in terms that represent it as sexually desirable.
Meta reacts and Neil Young refers to a moral line
Meta spokesman Andy Stone told Reuters that the document was being revised. “The examples and hints in question were and are incorrect and contradict our guidelines and have been removed,” said Stone. “We have clear guidelines about which answers can give AI characters, and these prohibit content that children sexualize, as well as sexual role games between adults and minors.”
In recent years, Young has withdrawn several times from platforms that did not match his moral principles. In 2022 he turned against Spotify and withdrew his music from the platform because false information on the Joe Rogan Experience was spread over vaccines. In 2024 he returned after the podcast, once exclusively available on Spotify, was also available on other services. “Because I can’t leave all these services like Spotify – since my music would otherwise no longer be streamed – I returned,” he said at the time.
Young also asked his generation to deduct her money from Chase, Citi, Bank of America and Wells Fargo. “Because of their continued financing of the destruction by fossil fuels, although the global temperature continues to rise, I say: Take your money off the accounts of these American banks today,” he said. “Join me when I move my money away from the causes – or you will knowingly be one of them. You have the power to change the world. We can do it together. Your grandchildren will thank you in history.”
