According to the police, the 23-year-old driver from Menen drove at a high speed and he did not give priority to a crossroads, the white car collided with a black van. Both vehicles suffered a lot of damage and instead of staying on the spot, the person from the white car fled into the dense corn field.
The police started an extensive search. Both a tracking dog and a drone were used to systematically search the environment. Thanks to these resources, the driver could be traced and arrested a little later.
At the arrest it turned out that the man was under the influence of alcohol. He took a positive breath test, which confirmed the suspicion of driving under the influence. The board immediately lost its driver’s license for 15 days. The other person involved in the van was slightly injured and had some problems with the leg.
