A sit-in protest will be held tonight on Stationsplein van Assen and Emmen. That is a protest, where participants draw attention to the situation in Gaza.

The Palestinian community in the Netherlands made a call to keep SIT-ins at stations throughout the Netherlands. In the meantime there are about forty. Similarly in Assen and earlier today in Emmen Writes Sun! 34. In Assen, dozens of people are currently present at the protest.

Organizer and Emmenaar Istahil Abdulahi believes it is important not to demonstrate not only in the Randstad: ” I just want to do something like a person. You often hear ‘what is the point’, I want to make my sound heard. I have a pan and spoon with me. “

Abdulahi is of the opinion that people in Emmen are not interested: ” I don’t mean that in common, but when I see how many people I get in the legs in Utrecht and in Zwolle. Little to nothing happens here. There must be change here. It is inhumane what is going on, the genocide and the famine. People can come up with all kinds of terms, it does not justify anything, “says the organizer.

Suzan Vastenburg is one of the participants in the sit-in in Emmen. She also thinks it is important to make her sound heard: “” The difference between something and nothing makes a little difference. We protest against the almost nothing of the government. “” Vastenburg thinks it is important to show solidarity with the people in Gaza: “Those who want to live in peace and are also victims of Hamas.”

Abdulahi does not want it to stay with a single demonstration in Emmen: “We want to prepare for the coming weeks.”
