Together with Nikola Portner, Sergey Hernandez formed a world-class goalkeeper duo, which has given SC Magdeburg numerous titles in recent years. Now the Spaniard has announced his farewell.
Goalkeeper Sergey Hernandez will leave SC Magdeburg after the 2025/26 season. The 30 -year -old goalkeeper wants to start “a new chapter” in his career, as the club announced on Wednesday (August 13).
It is not clear where the Spanish national goalkeeper is going. He also left open the background for his farewell: “Out of respect for everyone involved, I will notify the reasons and details in due course. I hope you can understand and respect this decision.”
So far four titles with the SCM
Hernandez changed to the Elbe from Benfica Lisbon for the 2023/2024 season and won the Super Globe, the German Championship, the DHB Cup and the Champions League in the two seasons with Magdeburg.
Together with the Swiss national goalkeeper Nikola Portner, he formed a world-class duo that had a decisive part in the SCM triumph in recent years. Hernandez ‘big hour not only beat in the final four of the DHB Cup in April 2024 when he represented the pattern, who was then suspected of doping, in the goal, but also in numerous other co-games in the Champions League.

SCM trainer Wiegert regrets farewell
In his last season for the SCM, further titles are to be added. “There is another year full of goals, challenges and special moments in front of us, which I would like to experience to the fullest together with all of you,” said Hernandez.
SCM coach Bennet Wiegert regrets the farewell and was able to feel the Spaniard’s difficult decision in the open conversations: “With Sergey, a player who has kept keeping our back over time and who we would have liked to see on in the SCM jersey. We are extremely grateful for everything that he brought into the team in terms of sport.”
