The image of Özcan Akyol is damaged by its role in the Matthijs van Nieuwkerk scandal, but Jan Slagter also does not exactly get rid of it without a hurry. The Max-Baas broadcaster has more or less fired EUS via the camera from Shownieuws and according to critics that is not the behavior that you can expect from a broadcasting director.

Jan Nieuwe Johan?

TV critic Victor Vlam finds it awkward. “This wasn’t such a handy action. You can’t dismiss anyone via television without not let him know first and not without first coordinating it in your own organization. He just should have done that,” he says in the podcast Victor explains TV.

What does he think is behind this? “I think Jan wanted to do a little too much Popiejopie. I think he has a deep desire to be a kind of new Johan Derksen. That is also the reason why he is of course very often in talk shows as an opinion maker. Actually, no other TV boss does that.”

Popiejopia

Jan as a talk show guest, is that still possible? “In this case the question arises: is that compatible with leading a broadcaster? I think that increasingly is starting to become clear that that is starting to wring, because the moment you do things like this, then you prepare yourself all Popiejopie.”

He continues: “If you do not do that in a careful way, in a way that you can expect from a TV boss, then that is something that really radiates very negatively on all Max. The way he deals with his people is the way Max deals with his people, so this was just not such a sensible action.”

Less happy

Victor thinks that there is also internal resistance at Max against the awkward media performances by Jan. “I think that in a broader sense, I indeed raise the question of whether it is still wise for him to appear in talk shows as often as an opinion maker, because I can also imagine that people at Max will be less and less happy with that.”

“His behavior and his statements shine on everyone who works at such a broadcaster. Unfortunately, that is how it works. And yes, I can imagine that not everyone is happy with that.”
