Rostock's Marco Schuster (front) and his teammates cheer a goal.

Hansa Rostock’s third division soccer players took the first win of the season. Against Waldhof Mannheim, the Mecklenburger celebrated a deserved 1-0 (0-0) success on Sunday and thus remained without conceding a goal in the second game of the season.

A week after the 0-0 in Aue, Marco Schuster was the celebrated man with the Rostockers. The 29-year-old overcame in the 78th minute from 18 meters guest keeper Lucien Hawryluk and also benefited from the fact that the shot had been deflected. At the time, the home side played in the majority after Tim Sechelmann had seen yellow-red in the 63rd minute. The victory is also okay because Hansa was the decisive team over long distances of the game.

On the coming Saturday (3:30 p.m., in the live center at NDR.de), the North Germans receive in the first round of the DFB Cup Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim. A week later, on August 24th (1.30pm) you will be a guest in the league at FC Ingolstadt.

Minute for silence for Herbert Pankau

The game began after a minute’s silence for the Hansa legend Herbert Pankau, who died recently at the age of 83. The 25,600 spectators in the Baltic Stadium received a passionate game with many nicks, and the Rostock fans among them could have cheered almost an early Hansa leadership: Julian Rieckmann’s crashed back pass was just grown from the line (7th).

Hansa with more goal danger

But on the other hand, too, not much was missing for a hit. After a free kick by Arianit Ferati, Malte Karkestein came to a conclusion in the penalty area, but was too reserved, so that the ball flew just above the goal of Hansa keeper Benjamin Uphoff (21st). With increasing playing time, the printing of the home side grew. David Hummel missed the opportunity to 1-0 when he failed from a short distance to guest keeper Hawryluk (32nd). Shortly afterwards, Adrien Lebau almost caught a sloppy back pass from Hawryluk (34th).

Hansa uses outnumbered to lead

After the restart, Hansa coach Daniel Brinkmann tried to get more momentum into his team with the substitution of Benno Dietze, Ahmet Gürleyen and a few days ago. After an hour, Christian Kinsombi also came into the game. But the Rostockers were game -determining, had more possession, but struggled against the tightly staggered Mannheim defensive.

This changed according to the yellow-red card for Waldhof professional Sechelmann, who had gone to work twice against Dietze (63.). Hansa increased the pressure steadily and nevertheless needed opposing help for the lead goal: Bergh put in central back from the left side to Schuster, who took off directly – deflected by Riekmann’s back, the ball flew into the goal – Hawryluk was powerless (78.).

That was the decision in an encounter in which, despite the advantages for Rostock, it had looked long after a 0-0. Bergh could have increased again, but shot over (87th).
