Jobe Bellingham is in large footprints at BVB. They even let him doubt the change.

Before moving to Borussia Dortmund, Jobe Bellingham dealt intensively with the successful past of his brother Jew at the Bundesliga club. In the training camp in Austria, the 19-year-old said that he had thought about whether the comparison with Jew could be a burden for him.

“I don’t know if I would say that I was afraid,” said Bellingham. But it was something he thought about – precisely because he was still young and not perfect.

The decisive factor for the switch to BVB ultimately gave the club’s persuasiveness. Bellingham emphasized that the association conveyed to him that possible comparisons with his brother had no influence on his development. “I am also someone who firmly believes that the opinion of others should not determine what I want to do in my life.” The decision for Dortmund was one “which I made for myself. My journey is not the one that others have to understand.”

The midfielder changed to Dortmund from the Premier League promoted AFC Sunderland in June. As in England, he also bears his first name on the jersey at BVB – a conscious decision to differentiate himself from brother Jew. This had left the club in 2023 towards Real Madrid.

In Dortmund he wanted to develop in sports. “I don’t want to be a superstar, it doesn’t suit me,” said Bellingham. Instead, he sees himself as a “machine, a player at the highest level”.
