Since moving to Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton has not been on track. Bernie Ecclestone has a clear advice for the British.
Ex-Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has commented on the disappointing season of the record world champion Lewis Hamilton and made a clear judgment. “He should stop now,” said the 94-year-old in the British “Daily Mail”. The seven -time champion is “tired” and needs a “final break” from Formula 1.
Instead, Hamilton should venture a “complete restart” and devote something completely different. The Englishman switched to Ferrari at Mercedes in January after twelve years. So far, however, the liaison has not been successfully crowned.
On the edge of the Grand Prix in Hungary, Hamilton himself had caused a sensation with some statements. On Saturday he initially described himself as “useless”, after the disappointing twelfth place on Sunday, he claimed to love “still” on Sky UK on Sky UK. A little later, Ferrari published a statement in which Hamilton announced that they wanted to use the summer break to “reorient itself, to recharge your batteries and to come back more.
Despite the lack of success, Ecclestone Hamiltons cannot fundamentally be able to question. With the 40-year-old, it was like many other sports stars when they reached the top. After that, it is “just down,” says Ecclestone.
Significant: In the team -internal duel with Charles Leclerc, who can already show five podium ratings this season, Hamilton is 42 points behind the Monegassen in the driver’s ranking. So far, he was only able to set a sporty exclamation mark through his sprint victory in Shanghai.
If Hamilton would hold on to Ferrari’s contract, he would “cheat himself”, Ecclestone now clarified. A premature end of the collaboration can work “for both parties”. He named the young drivers Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls) and Gabriel Bortoleto (clean) as possible successors for the then free cockpit.
However, Hamilton himself rejected a possible withdrawal. “I’m not yet where I want to be, but the fight is not over yet – don’t write me off,” he said.
