The mother and her 24-year-old son were walking on the Große Klammspitze, a mountain top in the Alps. But when the 58-year-old woman from Augsburg suddenly lost her balance, she fell into a ravine. The slope was according to the German newspaper Bild So steep that she could no longer stop her fall.

Her son immediately sought help. A helicopter and rescue workers were deployed, but all help came too late. The woman had already died.

Due to the difficult weather conditions, the salvage operation became a challenge. Police mountain guides could only mount the body around 3.30 pm, the woman had already fallen hours earlier. A police helicopter and agents from the Alpine Task Force West of the border police of Murnau were also deployed.

The son was in shock and was provided by a special unit that provides psychological first aid after traumatic experiences in the mountains. The Alpine police investigates how the fall could happen.
