A test with mobile graters to stop wolves has worked out well, reports the province of Drenthe. Between October and May 114 graters were placed at eleven animal holders, to protect more than 10,000 animals in total. In that period, one wolf attack was registered, but that happened because the stream voltage on the grid was too low.

Mobile wolf -resistant rasters are especially useful for sheep farmers who have to move their animals regularly. With a quad, according to the province, the barriers can be quickly placed and cleaned up.

The aim was to investigate whether such grids work well and how they can best be used. The test made clear which material is most suitable.

Another positive point according to the province is that skeptical animal holders have experienced that the graters offer protection if they are properly placed and maintained. Drenthe is therefore considering the test to continue.
