A boat with migrants was sunk off the coast of Yemen on Sunday. At least 68 people were killed. International press agencies report this in the night from Sunday to Monday. The incident took place in the Gulf of Aden off the coast of the southern Yemeni province of Abyan.

Bodies of boarders were found on various beaches in the Yemeni coastal region. There were 154 people on board the ship. Twelve people survived the shipwreck and 74 people are still missing, reports AP news agency. The local authorities assume that the missing people died. The boat is said to have suffered shipwreck due to the weather conditions.

There were migrants from Ethiopia on the boat. According to the police in the Allyan region Ethiopians regularly illegally crossed the crossing to Yemen. In total, around 60,000 migrants arrived in Yemen last year.
