The Tour de France Femmes ends on Sunday. French fans punched the breath before the final-because Ferrand-Prévot could drive the yellow jersey to the finish.
A year ago, the French woman Pauline Ferrand-Prévot voted Cross-Country Olympic champion. Now she is allowed to carry the yellow jersey for the overall leader at the Tour de France Femmes – and thus lets the French fans dream, who have hoped for years that a compatriot or a compatriot will make it to triumph in the end.
On Saturday, the 33-year-old from the “Visma-Lease A Bike” team secured the victory of the eighth stage and took over the yellow jersey of Kimberley Le Court de Billot (“AG Insurance-Soudal Team”). Ferrand-Prévot showed her class on Col de la Madeleine-and left the competition behind. She is now two minutes and 37 seconds ahead of the overall second Sarah Gigante (“AG Insurance-Soudal Team”).
Pauline Ferrand-Prévot swarmed in the interview afterwards: “It feels so good. It is a dream to wear the jersey, and I don’t know what to say. It’s more than I hoped for, and I’m so happy.” Only nine tour stages are driven in women, and the cycling highlight ends on Sunday.
On Sunday, Ferrand-Prévot and the other drivers have to beat two climbs in the Alps before the main field will arrive in Châtel. However, since Ferrand-Prévot has a good time buffer on her competitors due to her lead and she has already been able to depend on the Col de la Madeleine, it can be assumed that the French woman can also be seen as a winner from the tour.
On Saturday she also said: “I can’t wait to see my team members and share the jersey with them. They are a large part of the victory and yellow jerseys. I would like to thank you.” After the first, the third and fourth stage, the French -called teammate, Marianne Vos, was already wearing the yellow jersey. Now she has the honor herself and could be the crowning winner.
Ferrand-Prévot wrote on Instagram: “We will get the final victory.” She also said: “The French audience has been fantastic since the start of the Tour de France.” She had “difficult” at Col de la Madeleine, but noticed the support. Should the French win win at the end – would not only fulfill her dream.
