Ecstasy in Bielefeld again: A fulminant second division opening victory succeeds in the promoted team – also thanks to the help from Düsseldorf.
Arminia Bielefeld saved the swing of third division championship and vice cup title over the summer break. In the first second division game after two years of abstinence, the promoted team defeated Fortuna Düsseldorf 5: 1 (1: 1) on Saturday evening and stormed to the top of the table.
The self-proclaimed promotion candidate from Düsseldorf had to play outnumbered for a long time after an unnecessary yellow-red card for Tim Oberdorf (44th). At the time of the dismissal, the Fortuna was still in the lead through a goal from Cedric Itten (35th). Noah Sarenren Bazeee (45.), Julian Kania (54th, retailer), Joel Felix (75th), Joel Grodowski (79th) and Sam Schreck (90.+7) then shot out the Bielefeld victory.
Record at Season ticket sales
In Bielefeld, enormous euphoria had already prevailed before the kick -off, 17,000 season tickets sold meant a club record. Apart from Marius Wörl (Hannover 96) and Louis Oppie (FC St. Pauli), the promotion heroes remained, so that Arminia puts a well -rehearsed, grown team.
Against Düsseldorf, the Bielefelders started actively with pressing and brave passing in front of a sold -out house. The left side formed the entrances Tim Handwerker (Jahn Regensburg), Marvin Mehlem (Hull City) and Benjamin Boakye (VfB Stuttgart II).
Düsseldorf’s access trumps up
However, Düsseldorf held well against it, so that duels in midfield shaped the game. It was only after half an hour that it really started: Düsseldorf’s new, arrow fast right winger Christian Rasmussen (Ajax Amsterdam) shot with his strong left foot to the left crossbar.
Shortly afterwards, Rasmussen shone as a preparer: The Danish U21 international played steeply into the run of Itten (Young Boys), also a summer access. The Swiss center forward lay on the left foot and scored for the deserved Fortuna leadership.
Crucial minutes before the break
But the Fortuna weakened itself before the break. In the middle of the central defender Oberdorf in midfield, after a loss of ball, light, but also unnecessarily on the jersey, flew off the square with yellow-red. Only shortly afterwards, Bielefeld’s captain Corboz Flach fled in front of the goal and Sarenren Bazeee completed from a short distance.
The series of unfortunate scenes extended after the change of sides. Düsseldorf’s Sotiris Alexandropoulos, loan player from Sporting Lisbon, threw himself into a shot by Christopher Lannert on the edge of the box. The ball crashed into the slightly spread arm from his own leg, referee Patrick Alt immediately pointed to the penalty point – a hard but not clear decision. Kania converted safely.
Craftsmen convinces with corner balls
The Fortuna now had to be more active and was close to equalization in the 58th minutes. Matthias Zimmermann overlooked goalkeeper Jonas Kersken, but Stefano Russo clarified artistically just before the line.
In addition, the Arminia did not allow much and instead shone at the front of standards. Craftsmen had already sparkled several corner balls into the penalty area when he finally found the substitute Felix ten meters in front of the goal. The corner and header were exemplary, the ball jumped online from the inner post.
Grodowski and increase fright
Just three minutes later, Felix, again after a craftsman corner, almost achieved a dream goal by hoe. Düsseldorf’s Kenneth Schmidt fished the ball with his hand in front of the goal line and only got away with punishment because Grodowski dusted 4-1.
Because the referee surprisingly put on ten minutes of stoppage time, the Arminia came to a fifth goal: fright scored without hidden from 14 meters.
