Hamburger SV extended the contract with promotion coach Merlin Polzin and his team of coaches around Loïc Favé and Richard Krohn – the red pants announced on Saturday. “We take this step out of conviction, and our signal to the team of coaches and the environment is clear: We want to give security and backing for the upcoming tasks,” said sports director Stefan Kuntz.
Polzin took over HSV at the end of November 2024 as an interim coach and was promoted to the head coach shortly before Christmas 2024-previously he worked 27 games as assistant coach by Stefen Baumgart. As a seventh trainer since relegation, Polzzin has managed to climb.
“In the Bundesliga, a tough competition is waiting for us, in which we can inevitably meet crises. We are ready to tackle this challenge together with Merlin, Loic and Richi sustainably. We have not least demonstrated in the pre -season that we form a strong unit that also finds common solutions,” says Kuntz.
Director Sport Claus Costa said: “Merlin, Loic and Richi have not only worked for the HSV since their takeover as a professional team. You have achieved the long-awaited goal of the Bundesliga promotion with a lot of diligence, meticulousness and absolute clarity and then fell into the next task with a clear analysis and a focused look. Ambitions are our development-hungry coaching team.
In 22 games, the HSV got 1.82 points per game under Polzin. The first opponent after seven years of Bundesliga abstinence is called Borussia Mönchengladbach on August 24th. Polzin, whose contract had extended with the rise until 2026, said about the now renewed expansion of his working paper: “As is well known, the HSV is the club in my hometown. Since I arrived at HSV, I have been able to carry the diamond on my chest with great pride. The past few months have not noticed the overall team. First hand, which means the people of this club, and are therefore very happy to have been strengthened again in this constellation by those responsible and committees. ”
