Rolling Stone has announced the appointment of Sean Woods and Shirley Halperin for his new co-editor-in-chief. Woods, long -standing executive editor of Rolling Stonetake on the role with immediate effect and continue to be located in New York. Halperin, an experienced music journalist and co-editor of the “Hollywood Reporter”, will start her new position on September 1st. She will act as a co-editor-in-chief and as a Head of Music and divide her time between New York and Los Angeles. Together, Halperin and Woods will work closely with Rolling-Stone CEO Julian Holguin to design the editorial orientation of one of the most iconic media brands worldwide.

Sean Woods

Sean Woods has been with Rolling Stone for over 20 years, most recently as an executive editor. During his time at the magazine, he directed award-winning research and feature stories, which were honored with three National Magazine Awards, two George Polk Awards and numerous other awards-including Glaad, Dart and La Press Club Awards. In 2023 Woods was responsible for the multimedia investigative report “The DJ” and “The War Crimes”, with which Rolling Stone was nominated for an Emmy for the first time. Woods also worked as a contributing editor at the “Men’s Journal” for several years, where he wrote the column “Last Word” and interviewed Anthony Bourdain, Mel Brooks and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Shirley Halperin

Shirley Halperin, the first woman at Rolling Stone, has more than two decades of experience in the field of entertainment and music journalism. She had management positions at “Variety”, “Billboard”, “The Hollywood Reporter” and “Los Angeles Magazine”, where she was responsible for initiatives such as the “Variety Hitmakers” event and the annual No.1S formats of Billboard. Halperin’s work has been awarded La Press Club Awards several times, and she is also the author of three books.
