Rick Brandsteder claims that he only started drinking after his near-accident, but his promillage of 1.83 speaks volumes: he was really with gin and beer. But why precisely this striking combination?

Rick Brandsteder again went wrong in March. He ended up with his car on the roadside near Breukelen, where he was found drunk. According to the police, he drove swinging, parked half in a ditch, and he could barely stand on his legs. His alcohol promillage: 1.83 – good for fourteen glass beer. And there was drugs in his blood.

Beer and gin

Rick himself blames the incident on an unfortunate coincidence. After sorting things out in the parental home, he would have been emotionally unwell. “There I was overwhelmed by emotions that I drove the car to the Jumbo in Breukelen and bought a 6-pack beer and a bottle of gin there.”

Why beer and gin? He tells in court, so signs Story On: “If my father drank something, it was a head bump. For that reason I bought, I was not completely clear, a bottle of gin. Then I drove further, and I parked my car near my father’s home.”

Tie

Rick opened his first beer there, he claims. “I drove further and parked my car near the swimming pool, somewhere in the roadside. There I drank my second beer. After my second beer I thought: this is the time to put the car somewhere where it can stand.”

That parking then did not go completely well, but only then did he really go to drink, Rick believes. A witness contradicts that and Shownieuws panell members call it a ‘chat story’ and a ‘copy-paste from his father’, who also came away from the court with a similar story. “It is very transparent.”

Head bump

All in all, Rick sees drinking that mega headstoot especially as a sentimental tribute to his father. Dad Ron was spotted in 2023 on a terrace where he ordered a gin with a glass of beer next to it, or a head bump. It led to some fuss. “After an hour he left again, with a bag from the local supermarket in his hand.”

Ultimately, the judge decides: innocent tribute or just a dangerous family ritual that is really starting to get out of hand?
