Excitement and drama and time penalty in the triathlon-mixed competition in Dresden. Curious: In the end, the team cheered with the highest time penalty.

The DSW 12 Darmstadt team is the new German champion in the triathlon mixed relay. The quartet with Carlotta Bülck, Fabian Kraft, Finja Schierl, Henry Christopher Kraft won on Thursday (July 31, 2025) as part of the finals in Dresden with a winning time of 1: 16.1 hours before defending champion Hylo Team Saar/Viernheim with Lena Meißner, Chris Ziehmer, Tanja Neubert and Valentin Wernz.

Darmstadt’s final runner power won with a lead of ten seconds ahead of Hylo Schnagerläufer Valentin Wernz.

The race also gained strength through tactically clever inserting a time penalty. The Darmstadt suffered two ten-second penalties while swimming, and Kraft decided to wait for this punishment directly from the wheel to run. Wernz, who received a penalty for ten seconds, waited for half of the running discipline. During this time outdated strength and ran to the finish.

Time penalties when swimming

Curious scenes repeatedly played off at the start discipline swimming when the first buoy was curved. Because the current of the Elbe was so strong, the athletes always had problems finding the ideal line. This did not always succeed, sometimes the triathletes get tangled or lost a lot of time. The Darmstadt team even conceded two time penalties of ten seconds each for the non-correct change of the buoy, the Hylo team had to pay a ten-second penalty.
