Formula 1 newcomer Cadillac is the only option for Mick Schumacher to stay in the motorsport king class in the 2026 season. But the competition of German is and remains great. A current Formula 2 pilot has now also confirmed to have talks with the US racing team.

Officially, both cockpits are to be awarded for the 2026 season. Only one place is unofficially free. It is an open secret that Valtteri Bottas is awarded the contract. The Finn itself recently indicated this in Spa.

The fight for cockpit number two, on the other hand, is still completely open. It is clear so far: there are a number of candidates. Mick Schumacher, who has already spoken to the Cadillac managers several times, is one of these.

However, this also applies to Jak Crawford. The current Formula 2 driver and Aston Martin reserve confirmed to “Motorsport.com” to be in an exchange with the US team. “There were conversations,” said the 20-year-old, who also confessed: “At the moment things are going very slowly.”

Does an American get the Formula 1 surcharge?

Crawford emphasized that he could only concentrate on doing a good job in Formula 2: “I can no longer do.” However, his goal is, of course, to find a place in the Formula 1-Grid: “Whether this is now at Cadillac, at Aston Martin or other teams.”

Which may become the greatest trump card for the third of the current Formula 2 rating: its origin. Crawford is a American. In the past, Cadillac team boss Graeme Lowdon made no secret of the fact that his team would like to put a local hero in the cockpit.

Crawford is also one of the small selection of US drivers who have collected the necessary points for the Formula 1 license (as good as). If he gets a top 5 placement in the last ten season races, the so-called super license is certain. This should not fail with Cadillac.
