The number of suicides in Belgian prisons is 25 percent above the European median, which means that Belgium belongs to the highest figures. The Central Supervisory Board for the prison system (CTRG) and the Federal Institute for Protection and Promotion of Human Rights (FIRM) report this on the basis of figures from the Council of Europe. They ask to make urgent work on a solution for the structural shortage of psychiatric care for prisoners.
