Want to watch a movie with a bowl of popcorn from your (lazy) car seat with a bowl of popcorn? In that case, lovers of the classic autobios must note on Sunday 21 September in the agenda. The parking lot at the Grote Rietplas (Ericasestraat) then changes for a day into an old-fashioned drive in cinema. And whoever comes to see immediately contributes to charity.
The idea comes from the top hat of the Table Round 125 Southeast Drenthe. This combination of a friends and network club organizes all kinds of promotions every year for mainly local charities. The club has been the creator of MM Culinair and the Emmen Beer Festival. These events were later transferred to local entrepreneurs.
This also applies to the last event: the beer festival. For almost five years, the table round set it up. “But the last edition was not that fast anymore,” said Lennart de Jonge. “We noticed that from ticket sales. For the brewers involved and for us as volunteers, it also set a solid change on our time and energy.”
In short, it was time that the helm was. The festival has since been transferred to hospitality entrepreneur Gerbert Junoy Montolio from Café Plein and Restaurant Barcelona in Emmen, who, according to De Jonge, wants to give it a new pendulum.
Then the table round bent over a new idea. “With us the agenda was almost empty. So we approached for inspiration at other local table rounds.”
De Jonge lives in Weerdinge, but is originally from East Groningen. There he is the neighborhoods at the club in Winschoten. “They organized a car cinema a while ago and that was a resounding success.” So that idea was gratefully taken over.
The parking lot at the Kinepolis in Emmen initially seemed the best place. “But according to the rules, only parking is allowed, so he didn’t.” But De Jonge is just happy with the place it became: the parking lot at the Grote Rietplas. “With a view of the water and the toilets are already present.”
The table round wants to show three films on a mega screen of five by eight meters on that Sunday afternoon. The sound goes through the own car radio. Lilo & Stitch, The Lion King 2 and Mama Mia are on the program. “A few nice films for the children and then something pure for the adults.”
The entrance costs 30 euros per car per film. With the screening of every film there is room for 100 cars, estimates the young. So 300 in total.
Of course it is intended that the proceeds from the autobios go to charity. “We have chosen a new party for this year: Stichting Kinderkamp Zuidoost-Drenthe. They provide outings and holidays within the Netherlands for families and children with a small wallet.”
The young and a few table members once took a look and were immediately convinced. “It’s about people who can’t just go on holiday themselves. And you can just see how such a nice week those children have.” So that was also quickly a foregone conclusion.
He therefore hopes that the idea of the BIOS will catch on. Tickets can be ordered via the website DriveinBioscooscoopmemen.nl. “And we arrange the drink and the popcorn,” he laughs.
