The action is on top of existing initiatives from the coastal municipalities and the VZW De Proper Strandlopers. Yet litter remains a persistent problem. “Our beach runners are busy every day to clean up the waste left behind,” says Michelle Martens van Westtoer. “There are waste bins, but with crowds they are quickly overcrowded and then the waste will just remain around it.”
Residents also bothered the mess that remains. “Every time I go to the beach, I see the same”, Marie-Jeanne Viaene from Knokke-Heist testifies.
