Ben Saunders was once on stage of the very first The Voice of Holland, nowadays he is mainly tangled with his health. “I have to hang upside down every hour!”
Ben Saunders won the very first edition of the now controversial The Voice of Holland in 2010, but soon fell into oblivion. Nowadays he is mainly active as a tattoo artist, with his own shop in Hoorn. He works full -time there, although his body is getting in his way more and more. From a medical point of view, the 42-year-old singer is not doing well.
Surgery for nothing
It is now half a year since Ben had operated on a hernia. “That operation was pretty fucked. So I was operated on, I was indeed flat for almost six weeks, but I still had problems after that. I just had the feeling that the hernia was still there. So I had pictures taken again,” he says in the Party.
He continues: “And then it turned out not only that the old hernia was indeed still there, but they also saw that a new hernia had been added. The surgeon said,” This is not possible to operate against what you have. ” So that operation has actually been for nothing. “
Bat
It is a typical tattooed disorder, Ben believes. “You often have to be bent or take a certain position that is not necessarily good for your back. I have been doing this for 26 years, it is also a kind of wear.”
And now? “Well, I don’t want medication, because I don’t feel like feeling so suppressed all day. So I just keep going. The doctor advised me to lie down in an inversion table. Then you’ll be hung upside down like a bat.”
Version table
Not to do, Ben believes. “Yes, I don’t really see that, you know. In the shop I can’t say to a customer:” Sorry, but I have to stop tattooing because I have to hang upside down. Yes, I just don’t know anymore. “
He concludes: “I think I just have to accept it. I just have to learn to live with it. I want to try it once, such a inversion table, but every hour? No, I really can’t succeed.”
