Van der Hout tries to invest the demonstrations locally, and has translated the slogans into Dutch. For example, in Zaandam they do not sing the well -known ‘The People United Will Never Be defeated’ but ‘we can do it together, we are not defeated’.
Who hears us?
Fay Conrad (31) from Zaandam, demonstrates for the first time tonight. She is wearing a Palestinian scarf and a pan and lid. “It is outrageous what happens in Gaza. I am sad every day.”
She wants to move politics with her action, but the lack of decisiveness makes her powerless. “Why don’t the same sanctions apply to Israel as for Russia?”
Sanctions for Russia, but not for Israel
Since March, Israel has been blocking the supply of relief supplies for Gaza, while demand for it is increasing. At the food points where the occasional bags of flower are handed out, Gazanen are murdered by the army.
Last week it became clear that EU is not proceeding to sanctions, partly because Germany is stopping it. The ministers did write a letter to Israel, in which they call to stop the violence.
