The European women in summer is one of the sports highlights of the year. You will be able to follow fans for the first time almost completely free of charge.
Football fans can look forward to an extraordinary offer at this year’s European Championship of women: For the first time, almost all games of the tournament are broadcast on freely receiving television. ARD and ZDF announced that. Only the four parallel games on the last group game day are excluded – but they are also available in full length in the livestream.
For the ARD, Claus Lufen and Almuth Schult lead through the broadcasts as an expert from the studio in Cologne. The games are commented on by Stephanie Baczyk, Christina Graf and Bernd Schmelzer. Lea Wagner accompanies the DFB selection directly on site. At ZDF Katja Streso stays close to the German team – she reports from Zurich. In the Mainz studio, Sven Voss moderates together with expert Kathrin Lehmann. The live comments take over Claudia Neumann, Norbert Galeske, Oliver Schmidt and Gari Paubandt.
“When it comes to women’s football European Championships, everyone has to think of the dramatic final England against Germany in Wembley 2022. 18 million spectators followed the final at the time,” said ARD sports coordinator Axel Balkausky: “We are now hoping for such an emotional football festival.” The two transmitters want to play the games “for everyone”, ZDF sports director Yorck Polus announced, and so “the upswing” of women’s football further strengthen.
The first two group games of the German team against Poland (July 4) and Denmark (July 8) shows the ARD, the third game against Sweden (July 12) runs on ZDF. If the DFB team reaches the quarter-finals, this would also be transferred to ZDF. A possible semi -finals with German participation would then be seen again in the ARD. The final on July 27 will broadcast the ZDF. The other knockout games are only divided between the broadcasters after the group phase has been completed.
The ARD also offers all games of the German team and all games from the quarter-finals as a complete audio live experience-online or on the radio. In addition, a new documentary about Jule Brand, Giulia Gwinn and Sjoeke Nüsken appears before the start of the tournament. Both transmitters also plan a comprehensive online offer around the tournament.
