Five years in prison, a 45-year-old man from Rosmalen from the court in Den Bosch received the abuse of Mark Gillis in 2021. He did not agree and appealed. This Tuesday, the Court of Appeal in Den Bosch ruled that the five years in prison is a justified punishment for what the son of holiday park magnate Peter Gillis was affected.

According to the court, Gillis fell victim to an armed robbery on November 7, 2021. It was committed in his chalet at Vakantiepark Prinsenmeer in Ommel. In addition to the man from Rosmalen, two more men were involved. One of them was acquitted, the third suspect also received five years in prison from the court and resigned himself to that decision.

Kicked and beaten
Gillis, after he got home at night, was pulled into his home on both legs and tied up. Then he was kicked and beaten against his head and other body parts. He had to be admitted to a hospital.

Almost four years later he still suffers from it, he said during the treatment on appeal. Mark Gillis said he no longer feels safe and is often anxious. He has also been treated by a psychologist for this.

Gillis also robbed of some watches during the robbery. They would have been worth five thousand euros. A so -called immaterial claim for damages, for the spiritual consequences of the robbery, did not make it. The defense demanded four thousand euros in vain. The Court of Appeal notes that Gillis has had a ‘very traumatic experience’, but also that the compensation must be claimed through another court.

‘Gloves loaned’
The Advocate General (the public prosecutor at the court) had demanded seven years. The suspect’s lawyer had advocated acquittal. Among other things, because his client could be ‘impossible’ one of the perpetrators in view of his posture. The lawyer referred in his plea to camera images on which the perpetrators can be seen. He also had an explanation for the fact that his client’s DNA traces were found on Gillis’ pants. They had ended up there, because the man from Rosmalen had given gloves to a co -perpetrator. He drove scooter and it was cold that night, it sounded in an explanation.

The Court attached no value to it, also because the man from Rosmalen made changing statements and the other suspect never received gloves from him. And he himself did not wear it during the robbery.

The lawyer had also proposed to take into account in the event of a conviction that his client is a caregiver for his girlfriend and that he wanted to take care of her son. Yet the man goes into jail for five years.
