Tennis fans are looking forward to the last Grand Slam tournament of the year. A sports legend could lead to the comeback.

Does a sports legend start in the individual competition at the US Open? In any case, the signs of a return of Venus Williams are condensed. The former tennis world list had no longer played a professional match for 16 months, now the 45-year-old gives her comeback on the WTA tour at the tournament in Washington.

And the organizers of the last Grand Slam tournament of the year in New York are also likely to have justified hope of reporting Serena Williams’ older sister. In any case, Venus Williams has already promised for the upstream mixed competition at the US Open.

According to the updated registration list, she will open it on August 19 and 20 as part of the US Open Fanfoche with her US Landsmann Reilly Opelka. The organizers did not comment on plans for a possible single start of the Californian.

Half of the 16 participating couples are determined on the basis of the world rankings and by allocating wildcards. The tournament winners collect a winning bonus of one million dollars.

In the mixed double, Williams each won a title at the Australian Open and the French Open. In New York, its best mixed result was in 1998.

In Washington, Williams return to the tour last year after recovery from a uterine operation. Her last professional fact that the five-time Wimbledon winner played at the WTA tournament in Miami in March 2024.

Before her first-round match in the US duel with Peyton Stearns, Williams himself fueled speculations about a return to the site of her US Open Triumph in the singles of 2000 and 2001 last weekend. “At the moment I’m at this tournament. But who knows: Maybe something else will come, but I don’t let myself be looked at the cards,” said the Olympic champion of 2000: “I think I know what I want to do, but I don’t necessarily want to talk about it.”

At the US Open, the mixed will take place for the first time this year in a reformed design form a few days before the main tournament (from August 24) in Flushing Meadows. After the facelifting through a new appointment, more prize money, a more compact schedule and fewer matches, all top 10 players of men and nine of the best twelve women have registered in the world rankings for the competition.
