AC Milan’s next goal for the left -wing low band – still without a owner after the farewell of Theo – is a boy who, until fifteen years ago, sold Empanadas in the streets of Esmeraldas, an important industrial center of the Ecuador thanks to its refinery, the largest in the country. There was born and raised Pervis Estupinan, “The Ecuadorian bullet”, between a dad who became the rector of a university and a mother who owns a ditches of meatballs.

humble origins

The arrival of De Cuyper’s Brighton, Belgian full -back already followed by Milan, has actually put the Estupinan door, destined to leave England after three seasons. His is a particular story. To summarize it in a word: sacrifice. Penultimate of five brothers, Estupinan grew in poverty, without ever losing hope of becoming a footballer: as a child you could buy clothes and football shirts with the little money earned around the street from Empanadas seller. Not only that: to round off, he spent his days as a gruesome in a local tennis club: it was so that he took off his first large whim, purchasing a pair of football shoes and leaving behind the pains on his feet after years of improvised games on the cobbled spaces of the neighborhood. The mother, Dora, managed a small meatball banquet at the Esmeraldas market, while the father, Quinonez – with a past as a footballer – instead chose the road to education: graduated in sociology, he became rector of the faculty of agraria of the Luis Vargas Torres University.

path

Esmeraldas, in those parts, baptize it “a little Brazil”: there is passion, enthusiasm and play on the street. A city that also forged Enner Valencia, historic striker of the Ecuador and with a past in the Premier League, between West Ham and Everton. In this context also grows Estupinan, who began his career as an offensive exterior to El Nacional, before moving – at just 11 years old – to Quito, thanks to Uncle Jorge Guagua, a former national team who played the 2006 and 2014 World Cup with Ecuador. With the rossoblù club, Pervis takes the first important step: the debut among the professionals. From there, the suitcase has never defeated it anymore. In 2016, Udinese brought him to Europe, but in Friuli he will never take the field. Not even with Watford, who held his card. Then begins his long wandering of loans in Spain: Granada B, Almeria, Majorca, Osasuna, up to the final jump in 2020 at Villarreal. Here, the former Empanadas seller wins an Europa League (even if from reserve) and conquers the fans, gaining the nickname of “bullet” for his tireless gallops on the band. In 2022 the transition to Brighton, where he explodes definitively: over 100 appearances in 3 seasons, with 5 goals and 14 assists. De Zerbi, his former coach to the “Seagulls”, once said: “I think Estupinan can become one of the best sinister full -backs in the world, it can also be found striker”. Are Milan not also looking for a number nine?
