Adams, the historic captain of the Gunners, won and lived in arm with the addictions. Then the hard prison, detoxification and anonymous alcoholics

“My name is Tony and I am an alcoholic”. Thus begins the story of a resurrection. Tony is Tony Adams. Arsenal captain, a player symbol of the Gunners, the one to whom the people rely on in times of difficulty. He, a giant in the heart of the defense, protects the treasure with the courage of a real warrior, but within himself, for many years, he has been dealing with the devil. A very hard battle. He drinks like a sponge, beer pints on beer pints, and now he has arrived at the terminus. He doesn’t do it anymore. So he decides to make one last sip and then plays the bell of anonymous alcoholics. To drag him there is that little of willpower that has remained and to which he clings so as not to fall into the void. It is 5 pm on Friday 16 August 1996. Now, day, month and year they will remain forever in Tony’s memory because this is the moment in which the whole world, officially, will become aware of his addiction, his drama. Before he was considered a hero, an invincible. Now, however, he shows his fragility to people, ask for help. And it takes a lot of courage to ask for help showing yourself how you are, without infinity and without shame. Only when you really touch the bottom can you think of a step like the one taken by Tony: to remove the mask is an extreme gesture, it means getting naked and accepting its consequences.
